Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Dr. Smith uses electrical muscle stimulation as a therapeutic method to strengthen weak muscles, reduce spasms, decrease inflammation, and minimize pain. During electrical muscle stimulation therapy, small electrodes are placed on the skin and send electrical impulses to the muscles which cause them to contract and become stronger. This unique electrical muscle stimulation therapy promotes recovery and is actually incredibly relaxing. We compare it to an electrical massage!
Spinal traction (also known as spinal decompression) is one of Dr. Smith’s most prescribed treatments because of its effectiveness for treating back and neck pain. Spinal traction uses a motorized stretching table that slowly and gently stretches and relieves pressure in the spine. It can alleviate pain caused from disc bulges, disc herniations, degenerative disc disease and sciatica.
During this treatment, Dr. Smith will strap you onto our spinal traction table, strategically positioning your spine for optimal decompression. He will then program the table to slowly stretch your body with just the right amount of traction pressure for your specific body. This conservative treatment is highly effective and only takes about 20 minutes.
Dry needling is a popular technique for treating pain using a dry needle inserted into muscle, often associated with acupuncture. During a dry needling treatment, Dr. Smith will insert a small filament needle through the skin into specific muscles at specific trigger points. The insertion of the needle causes a ‘twitch’ response in the muscle or muscle groups, followed by relaxation. Dry needling is a highly effective treatment that is known to increase blood flow, reduce muscle tightness, and restore range of motion.
